Late 1800's Sea Shell Brooch
Item BE15: Exquisite, vintage and extremely feminine. You can almost
hear the waves and seagulls when you cast your eyes on this brooch.
Hand constructed of delicate natural colored shells of ivory, pale pink,
medium pink, as well as yellow, this ancient piece has lasted to thrill ones
senses much longer than could have been imagined when it was
Dozens of shells and stems have been glued to an old piece of
original celluloid, and judging the quality and disposition, it is of
the earliest celluloid, which began in 1863, (followed by Bakelite
in 1899). Since brooches, necklaces and earrings of this nature
were a favored gift from a beau (especially a sailor) to his lady
of intention, it appears to fit perfectly into the late 1800’s period.
Amazing condition, still secure and most wearable.
3 1/4”L x 2 1/4”W with strong clasp, and delicate, feminine colors.
